In Dubai, the fast-paced design industry meets the challenges of environmentally friendly principles. Within this bustling metropolis, Tasneem Kapadia Design Studio has recently delivered a project that offers a unique exploration of design, incorporating elements of art, music and sustainability. The studio, known for its comprehensive range of interior design services, has breathed new life into a 4000 sq ft garden villa known as VIKDEE Home, creating an engaging and meaningful space that is a testament to its client’s unique tastes and preferences.

Spearheaded by Tasneem Kapadia, a designer with over two decades of experience in Dubai, the project was an impressive feat of quick but effective transformation, with design to execution completed in a mere 40 days. To meet this deadline and stay within budget, the studio relied on local suppliers for all materials and products used in the renovation. From fabrics procured from Al Sahara Trading to stones sourced from Sharjah factories, engineered flooring from Floor World and lighting and tiles from Dragon Mart’s online store, every element used in the design was carefully chosen and strategically incorporated.

At the heart of the project lies the clients’ passions for art, music and socialising, elements that served as the guiding light in the overall design strategy. Kapadia’s challenge was to depict the story of the clients’ love for music and art, creating zones within the home that revolved around these functionalities, whilst repurposing existing furniture pieces to reduce waste and uphold sustainability.

Giving a new lease of life to furniture

A striking feature of the redesigned home is the repurposed furniture that gives a fresh lease of life to the interiors. Notably, a metal cabinet, initially in a battered state, was revitalised and repainted with cane mesh door details. The introduction of an earthy fabric scheme and the creation of a central arched unit, featuring the clients’ vinyl collections and music system, adds to the unique ambience of the space.

The final design achieved the perfect harmony of aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability. It speaks volumes about its inhabitants, exuding an atmosphere of warmth and comfort, and provides a haven for the clients to enjoy the essence of life. The project has created a unique narrative of living with art and music, infused with the basic pleasures of life, all in a setting that champions sustainability.

In a rapidly growing city like Dubai, the need for sustainable solutions in the design sector is paramount. Tasneem Kapadia Design Studio, with its combination of creativity, style, functionality and commitment to sustainable practice, demonstrates that design and sustainability can coexist and thrive, setting a commendable example for others in the industry.
